My old 2016 Toyota Corolla S had the CVT which used "simulated" shifts to make the variable ratio transmission less noticeable and make it feel more like a regular transmission with gears. You could even use manual mode and use the paddle shifters to change gears on a transmission with no gears, lol.What I have found works to get around it are 2 things -- 1) Keep your foot on the brake until after you shut the engine off. Also, pressing the brake while you jiggle the shifter can help too. Or 2) exercise the shifter from park to low and back 3 or 4 times. These are work arounds.
