98 mauser markings
The gun has all matching numbers and was built in 1943. On the receiver it is marked ar with a 43 below. It also has the standard eagle with the swastika but it also has a couple of Eagles with 26 marked under. The K98k has a aa mark and another ar but with a 4 marked under it near the sights. It has a f stamped on the side of the receiver.Anyway, the only thing that is for sure is that Mauser, ERMA, BSW were major participants in supplying Gew.98 parts during the early nazi era. Mauser barrels (all marked S/42), and sS rear sight parts, ERMA barrels, and BSW barrels and stocks. If Mauser installed any rear sight upgrades, it certainly was on a limited scale and wasn't "most".No markings anywhere, wondering if this could be a Spanish contract bayonet, as I have heard those exported to Spain were deliberately devoid of markings.
