IH didn't change the total 25 degree advance on a 400 gas when fire craters were installed. Other models like M and SM fire crater kits used 22 degrees total advance. IH preferred the total advance be set at full RPM and idle advance fall wherever unless the distributor was warn.

The combine C-301 engine's head (casting number 387718 R2), had smaller combustion chambers. Along with the smaller chambers, this head had bigger intake valves. The Intake valves measured 1.78" +/- a couple thousandths with my digital calipers. F-450 LP also used the 16 degree and compression listed from 8.76 down to 8.5. SM gas came with 30- degree plate. Several other supper models also did. lot of fire crater kits used the 22- degree plate.
