I was cleaning my 39AS and noticed that the firing pin does not simply come out like the firing pin does on my older 39A, there appears to be a pin that keeps it from coming out of the bolt. Clean the slot the firing pin rides in well, make sure there's no impacted crud where front of the pin's "leg" rides in the bolt and you'll be good.

I had to replace the bolt and firing pin on this gun. This gun was given to me do trying to get it firing again. The Firing pin was super tight so much it was hard yo covk the gun. I worked on the firing pin. And got it to fire but I still think the firing pin is tight.The 39 firing pin has a forward stop leg that limits the amount of firing pin protrusion. New FP's normaly need the face of this "leg" to be faced off for a proper fit. A perfectly fit FP will be as such. With the bolt out of the gun, the rear of the pin will sit flush with the hammer cut recess.

Sorry that your Marlin 39A had a broken firing pin, that is unusual. Comparing the 39A to the 9422, they are just different. I have both and the 9422 is the clear winner as far as finish, and it is reliable and functioning is very smooth, and has great sights.
