Casitas Municipal Water District is holding off for now on further cuts in water allocations. At its regular meeting Sept. 14, the CMWD Board of Directors received an update on water supply and demand, and conservation efforts, and discussed declaring a Stage 4 drought condition, triggered when Lake Casitas storage levels fall below 30%.Once the Casitas Dam was completed Lake Casitas remained practically empty for four years. Water levels were only a foot and a half above the bottom of the lowest intake gate by 1961. Water was too low to get to customers. Plans were made to bring in barges with large pumps that could get the water into the intake structure.
