The JM SBL's are pretty rare and more valuable than the Remington SBL's. Value is greater also but somewhat mitigated by the Ruger re-introduction of the SBL, however Ruger has now paused production on the 1895's while they build 336's so any SBL is valuable and desirable still.This is a 336M, the "M" meant that you had a little "Sean Connery" at the end of the barrel. After 2000, they quit making small Sean Connery's and called it the 336SS. In fact, that's what the "SS" stands for: Sans-Sean. Thanks for the replies! The rifle in question is a 338MX. I couldn't see any REP stamp or Remington proof marks on the barrel. The barrel looks to be 100% JM Marlin, and the receiver looks to be 100% Remington.
