Apr 16, 2016 · Colt built the King Cobra to compete with the 686/586. The Python is more of a custom gun with a lot of fine tuning and was not as durable as the 686/586. Also, back when Colt made Pythons and King Cobras the 686/586 was a 6-shot revolver as well. S&W came out with the 7-shot later. The King Cobra has a much shorter (and stiffer!) double-action pull than the Python. The KC is what Colt called a MK V action and they made a few Troopers featuring this action before they came out with the King.
