Hello gang, recently started having problems with the charging system on my 1300. Battery will top off but after about 15-20 miles it is drained. Have tested the battery pre- start and shows 12.8 volts. After start meter shows 11.6. Have replaced the rectifier (which had corrosion and a broken spade.The reason for shifting down is: you panic stop in a dangerous situation and you may need to take off quickly again from the stop - bike needs to be in 1st gear. or you stop the bike and put your feet down, and now you have to pick up your left foot and find 1st gear before the bike can start moving.Google Vstar 1300 wire diagram, both side of wire diagram there.
