It's definitely one of the higher OPTEMPOs in the reserves in terms of things like CTC rotations, schools, missions, etc. Promotion usually comes pretty easy since everyone is already in an E-5 slot. I would love to be a law enforcement ranger but don't know how that would work being in the National guard and going to an academy for a semester in another state. 10.
I commissioned this past May in 2020, was Natty Guard for about 4 years before so I had to stay Guard. I accepted a slot in another state after commissioning, so I had to do an Inter State Transfer after I commissioned.IIRC the USAR is more than 10,000 soldiers short of their mandated end-strength, and hemorrhaging soldiers & officers to the civilian world & the active component. The entire concept of an "operational reserve" is not what people signed up for. Holding guard & reserve units to the objective-T standards isn't realistic.Think coffee maker, coffee, powdered creamer, a metal mug, etc. Place your cell phone on a military suspension with your orders. Use internet calling like Skype or other programs and email. There is literally no reason to have an active cell phone while deployed. Sat phones are a waste of money.Natty guard combat arms units however have been a royal shit show more times than not from what I've seen. Whether it's them not knowing basic battle drills or just general knowledge that they should know, or just being a damn idiot. The guard actually does shit and it can be pretty rewarding if their unit is good. Plus, as a prior marine you will tend to have some credibility in a guard unit. I'm pretty sure like 35 or 40% of the guard is made up of prior Marines, so it's like the getting the fun of the Corps with Natty Guard standards.
